Lavender Sirup

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

First of all this is an old recipe of my mother. She made this the first time about 10 years ago. It was a hot summer day and i drank this sirup with some fizzy water. It was refreshing, sweet and totally gave me the feeling summer was even better in that moment. I loved it. So I kind of stole it... Hush now, don't tell...

I do like to make the Lavender in it a little stronger so I add more Lavender Blossoms to my recipe. So it's not a total copy.

Lavender once extracted from the blossoms have a several heath benefits beside just being delicious. Let me mention the important ones which are applicable on this recipe.

  1. It helps to give you tranquility. It helps reducing stress and anxiety and prevents mental depletion.

  2. The essential oils which are transferred into the sirup help the digestion. It will help with indigestion after eating, feeling bloated or having cramps and even reduce constipation.

  3. It is great for tour hearth and vanes. It helps reducing LDL-cholesterol which will lower the chance of artherosclerosis.

  4. Lavender has lots of antioxidants which help against skin irritation, premature wrinkles and inflammations through the entire body.

  5. And off course the one most of you will know, it helps you to sleep. It calms you and can prevent you from waking up in the middle of the night.

You can use the Lavender Sirup in different ways, more then just as a lemonade. You can read this a little lower. And as you can see there are lots of benefits too.

So why don't you give it a try?

Variations:

  • In cold water, still or fizzy. It's an instant Lemonade.

  • In hot water, it's instant sweetened Tea.

  • In Salad Dressings.

  • In Warm Sauces for poultry (or other meat)

Recipe for 1l

Prep Time: min

Cooking Time: 2 days

Ingredients:

  • 200 g Dried Lavender Blossoms

  • Sugar

  • Water

Recipe:

  • Put half of the Water and Lavender together in a pot on medium heat. Put the lid on and bring to a boil.

  • Once the Lavender tea boils, bring to low heat so it is below the boiling point. Make sure it stays there for 1 hour.

  • Remove the pot from the fire and let it cool down all the way with the lid on. I let it set aside until the next day to be sure.

  • So when your Lavender extraction is cold sift the brew. Really press on the flowers so you have all the flavor.

  • Make Sugar Sirup with the remaining Water and Sugar. Put it together in a pot on medium heat and stir once and a while. It will be quite thick but don't worry.

  • When the sugar is dissolved add the Lavender extraction.

  • Bring it to a boil for 3 min. Then set aside and let it cool. (without lid)

  • Once cooled sift again through an empty tea bag or coffee filter.

  • Put it in a airtight bottle and set it aside on a shelf in the dark where it isn't to hot.

ENJOY!!!
